Merrily Farms at Little Horse Creek - Homer Buffalo Tipis

"Thank you for the wonderful time at the farm. I traveled from California to North Carolina and wasn't disappointed...That's the most fun I've had for four days straight in a long time! Thanks again."
Bob R., California

Where the Buffalo Roamed.

Most people don't realize that buffalo and elk used to roam side by side with native Americans in the North Carolina hills (they say they'll restore the elk some day along with rattlesnakes).

But right now we don't have any buffalo, elk, native Americans or poisonous snakes. The White Man drove them all away. Stampeded the buffalo west, shot all the snakes and ate the elk. They drove the Indians to reservations on the Trail of Tears.

That does not mean the spirit of these first Americans or those buffalo are gone. So "Darn it", I said, "let's rebuild that heritage" Tipis, four of them constructed by Homer Buffalo, a native American who creates tents and sweat lodges for ABC TV (you have probably seen his if you watch Walker Texas Ranger). We brought him all the way from Texas. He drove to Montana to get the poles, Wyoming for the canvas. Lovingly painted in native American designs right here at Little Horse Creek, (One with Buffalo - One the Planets and Stars and one the Turtle) these are the authentic thing, until you get inside.

Little Horse CreekTrimmings have been designed by White Man's rules. Comfortable bed set atop bales of straw (I picked up this trick upon seeing Ralph Lauren's tipi - I'm not sure who had the idea to build one first). With a 16 foot diameter, even the tallest chief can stand easy. Mexican clay chiminerias keep everything warm for even the heartiest soul who would like to recreate Native American winters. Wonderful for outdoor lovers, Native American enthusiasts and meditators report a special deepness and calm when they meditate within these rounded walls.

White Man's toilets and running hot and cold water just steps away. Some of our civilized things are better.

Live like your ancestors. Snow shoes provided for the real Indians!
