Are You Related to Daniel Boone?

Daniel Boone lived somewhere in these hills, it is said. This must be true as the nearest town of any size is Boone, North Carolina, (named after Ole Daniel I presume). Plus almost everyone up claims some relationship to Boone.

This isn't just a Blue Ridge phenomenon! Seems all kinds of people claim Boone bloodlines. He must have been a prolific guy considering how much time he spent fighting bar (or was that Davy Crockett who killed him a bar when he was only three)!

"So why not have a Boone family home where anyone can stay," I asked?

Primitive cabin...10 foot by twenty...hidden deep in the woods at Fern Meadow. Built between two cherry trees with tin roof so you can pray for rain. Fat pot bellied stove with blue enamel coffee pot and four matching cups (watch out they'll scald the lips) for sipping strong coffee on the big deck during easy mornings. Wild flowers and primordial ferns on request (if it's summer or spring).

Running water though. Daniel probably didn't have this, but we thought you would insist. Very romantic four poster, gauze draped, king size bed, puffy quilts, oil lamps, crackling fire... Maybe there are that many people related to Daniel after all? Whether you are a true Boone relative or not when you sign in we won't say a thing.

Just ask for the rustic Fern Cabin at $79 a night. No electricity guaranteed, but I don't think you'll get see any bars in them thar hills today. Stay seven nights at $499 and save $54 bucks.
